The English word sequel has three meanings: 1. A literary work, movie, etc., that is complete in itself but continues the narrative of a preceding work. [seqüência, continuação] 2. An event or circumstance following something; subsequent course of affairs. [sucessão] 3. Result, consequence, or inference. [resultado, conseqüência, seqüela] Therefore, the words sequel (English) and seqüela (Portuguese) are only equivalent in the third meaning. However, this meaning is not the most common one in either English or Portuguese. Tiago |
