use of perfect aspect - and so refers to the implications of a past activity for the present moment (this subtle temporal treatment is absent from languages such as french, spanish etc and so causes such difficulty for learners from these backgrounds)

- What did you do ?!!!

no aspect used - a straightforward question about the past

So the difference is huge and simple

It is a significant distinction which anyone who was purporting to provide useful English language advice would no doubt familiarise themselves with before proceeding - of course most mother-tongue users of english would have no idea that this was what they are doing (as illustrated by some of the previous posts on this strand)
