I just have seen an expression close to it.
See an excerpt of the text I read it:
"Wait a minute,' I said "Where is she?"
"I don´t know," Alex answered. "Sometimes she just drives"
"She moved back onto the porch, crowding me backward. "I am not her keeper. She comes and goes. When we want to be togheter, we are; otherwise, I don´t hassle her. That´s a free advice."

Other variations could be used, as "That´s a friend´s advice" , "That´s a father to son advice" etc. In fact, these were the most close I got to "Quem avisa amigo é..."
