I think "to hire" is more useful nowadays as "to contract". I think that if someone uses "to contract", everybody will understand in the context, but you´d better use "hire" for a person and contract for a project, a company, I mean, for a package of service or whatever.
I just participate as a curious guy in this forum and I like and try to help everyone but sometimes I can´t help myself. Ask for the wizards, they will help you indeed.
