Assunto:  A cockpit too many word choice question

Stylistic comments.

 

As previously pointed out, neither sentences is wrong, the following observations can, however, be made:

 

"... and while the cockpit appeared small in comparison to (1) “that of” most allied fighters, it was well laid out (2)”

 

(1) ironing out a minor ambiguity
(2) avoids repetition of the words cockpit and appeared

 

"... and while small in comparison to most allied fighters, the cockpit appeared well laid out."

 

(3) The phrase appears back-to-front as it stands. A suggested improvement is as follows:

 

"... and while the cockpit was small in comparison to (that of) most allied fighters, it appeared well laid out."
