I guess "play on words" is about as good as we can get.
As for logic, how about "Pois nao"? Surprisingly, in Spanish there is something similar, "Como no." A common answer in Spanish is, "Sí, sí, como no." I think it was in Manuel Antonio (a park on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica) that I found a restaurant with that name, "Sí Sí Como No".
As for logic, how about the subjunctive in Portuguese? Jeeeeeeeeeez! It resembles only slightly the subjunctive in Spanish and Italian. A fellow told me that as a high school student he had discovered the secret to acing his Portuguese grammar exams. He would choose the correct answer...discard it and then give another answer. Whatever he was sure was right was always wrong. Therefore... Sort of like being married, huh?
