Sir, I think I may be of help to you. You see, in India the segments of the population who speak English generally have an excellent command of Academic English(Usually they have greater written fluency than the natives speakers). The only thing that gets in their way is their heavy accents. However, this thick accent of theirs could indeed become intelligible with a little self-auditory effort by the receiver. I know this from personal experience. I once had an Indian Professor in college whose accent was so thick, I and other students could barely understand what he was saying. However, whenever he gave out written hand-outs, the language quality was always impeccable. So bottom line is: GO WITH AN OPEN MIND! And sooner than later you will have gotten an auditory mastery of "Indian English". Good luck -Miguel Vieira |
