Mensagem:  Caro José, Eh interessante sobre o PVOLP. That is very regimented, and I believe it is a similar case with French. I find that Brazilians whom I talk with are often very particular about how I speak Portuguese, correcting my constructions, pronunciation, choice of vocabulary, etc; much more so than Americans are with Brazilians who speak English here (and I think most are speaking Eng as poorly as I speak Port). Talvez este poderia ter algum relacao com governanca formal da Portugues? Regarding licensed oversight of the English language, I agree that there is no body with strict control, so far as I am aware. However, there certainly are "keepers", or arbitraters- one might say- who have considerable influence: the compilers and editors of the major dictionaries, notably the Oxford English and the Webster's Unabridged.
