Mensagem:  Cara, I heard once that the "...es" in Portugues once meant "son of". 

Fernandes = Son of Fernando

In English we have a few surnames with "son" at the end.  I had a classmate named Thomason (Son of Thomas), Thompson (Son of Thom?) is common, Johnson (Son of John), etc.

What is your opinion of what I heard about "...es"?
