You have not given the context. Equity has many meanings in English. A common meaning in business and accounting (but not the only one) is the difference between the value of something and the total of debts, liens, etc.
Let's say that you are buying a property. It's current worth is $1,000,000. You still owe $300,000. Your equity is $1,000,000 - $300,000 = $700,000.
