Ha ha, and you have have not yet seen Rio in 2009! Maybe beaches are going to be peopled by guys with their Jock straps made of Mary Jane.
On the other hand, Rio had as his governor a congregational man, and had, at the time, a boom of violence (even a van with his children was attacked).
If memory serves, at that juncture, the Independent ran a feature with the title "Rio, the carnage". Which was readily refuted and carioca lawyers sued the paper, the feature
disappeared from the newspaper. But then, the Pandora box had been already opened;
millions of readers and worldwide tourist wannabe had copyed to their PCs.
Today, Rio is a quiet and calm place.
Worth noticing that nowadays, I don´t read O Povo, O Dia, and don´t watch Globo News or even any other prime time broadcast. So, my impression now is that of calm and quiet.
Don´t yet ruffle your feather, folks, I love that place. Though, I don´t need lie to win friends, don´t you think?
