Marcio, when you are talking about making a decision based on the side of a coin, to toss a coin and to flip a coin are interchangeable in the USA.  What is read in the dictionary is not always what is heard on the streets.

 

Getting away from the subject of coins, generally to toss is to throw and to flip is to turn over (to make something  turn over). 

The baseball player threw/tossed the ball to first base.

Toss/Throw the keys to me.

Turn/Flip your tests over.

The car turned/flipped over in the accident.
