Sometimes using correct language instead of the prevailing colloquialism can seem affected, but it depends on the speaker and the listener both. If it is clear to me that the speaker is making the usage that he was raised to use, then it does not appear affected. Regarding foreign speakers of English, when I hear them speaking with correct usage, I don't think they are pedantic, I just assume they were taught correctly. "Pedantic" is a word I would reserve to describe some of your postings to this forum. |
