Mensagem: | Dear Ron, I concur that the American culture is generally polite and respectful. However, I must say that it is definetely not egalitarian (Where did you get this idea?). If you look at the 2000 Census report, you will see that the income disparity between the masses and the elite is drastically unequal. Here is a statistic: A CEO of, say, a 500 fortune company makes 400 times more than your average middle manager of that same company. The only difference is that unlike the middle, lower and working-poor classes of other countries, the American masses have greater material confort. Consequently, this confort becomes an "opiate" to their drastically unequal status. And no, I don't have any bias against the haves, I just think the system that they are actors in is totally exploitive. This system is called Laissez-faire capitalism. Happy new year -Miguel Vieira |
