Take another look at Dale`s message. He didn`t say that "My director said me something" was OK. He made comments related to "my director" and "a director of mine" (they are OK). The question concerning "said to me" (OK) is that the verb "to say" asks for the preposion "to". So, you are right, "said me" is not OK.
When you use "to tell", you can say "told me" as the verb do not require the prepositon "to". Then, "told to me" is not OK. OK?
