Assunto:  Modal verb>can/may
Mensagem:  Take a look at this:

"After a nasty break up you may need a psychologist" or
"After a nasty break up you can need a psychologist"

My intuition says may is the option but I don´t know why. How would you tell the difference between them (in affirmative sentences)? In portuguese "it doesn´t matter" because in general they mean "pode", but in english we have degrees of certainty which is hard for students to get it.
