Renan´s comment is good. However, as an aside: I don´t as for the United States and English speaking countries, but in Brazil you can celebrate such parties/dates in advance/late. Thus, when you say "My husband and I are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary today." not necessarily say that the 5th wedding anniversary is today. It happens that today is Sunday and the given anniversary was last Friday (or is going to be next Monday). But, as I said, this happens in Brazil. Don´t know if it happens abroad in the same way.
