Amazon.com books are sent airmail. I don't recall if I would receive books directly from Amazon.com while I was in Brazil or not. Possibly they were sent to my sister who re-mailed them with other things. Only once did I pay customs fees, and that was for a DVD set that was not bought from Amazon.com. To my surprise, customs in Porto Alegre asked for the PayPal receipt. It was my good fortune that I had it with me. Be aware that in Brazil you pay a customs fee based on the cost of the item PLUS the shipment fee. I do not know if customs fees are charged for books. The DVDs were labeled "educational", and that did not help even a little bit. Again, I paid customs fees once, and I was getting packages from the USA about once per month. The bitch was that I had to drive from Gramado into Porto Alegre. Fortunately, I had planned to go that day anyway.
