Mensagem:  Johannes, I bet you are right.  Americans certainly say "to go off" in the sense of becoming very angry, but I had not heard the phrase you posted.  As Google clearly shows, somebody is using it somewhere! 

On an elevator one day, I overheard two men talking about a boss.  One man said, "We call him 'SCUD'.  We never know where he is going or when he will go off."
