Merriam Webster dictionary
Main Entry: dry goods

Function: noun plural
Date: 1657
: textiles, ready-to-wear clothing, and notions as distinguished especially from hardware and groceries .      (ou seja, em contraposição á ferramentas/ferragens e artigos de mercearia, principalmente comestíveis).

Dry goods are products such as textiles, ready-to-wear clothing, and sundries.
[1] In U.S. retailing, a dry goods store carries consumer goods that are  distinct from those carried by hardware stores and grocery stores[1], though "dry goods"  as a term for textiles has been dated back to 1742 in England[1] or even a century earlier.
[2] Dry goods can be carried by stores specializing just in those products
(a type of specialty store), or may be carried by a general store or a department store[3] or more recently, a big box store.

In fact the dry good store is a mix of "armarinho", "bodega" and "pequeno estabelecimento comercial/armazém" in the 50´s, in Brazil´s interior (and until recently) they were a shop in what was sold from clothes to foods, and bought (and bartered)
small farmers´ produces.
