The reasoning still holds, even a woman using a blue shoe is quite an imagery!

  At least in my country, and watching  the Oscar ceremony these last years I couldn´t spot one woman dressed like that. Unusual even to artists, but not impossible, of course.

  These years, I have seen pink (or almost pink) shirts in men, in Brazil.  And in straight guys; so, there´s nothing in the world that can´t take a U-turn.

   And in Brazil´s Navy, I learned, they say blouse too, once in a while; not so commonly used, but once in a while. 

   Just like the term pop up in everyday conversations as well, sometimes.

 

 

  The point is, with color (and in the given context) I´d  rather use the construction "goes with" instead of "matches".
