Command performance = As I recall, a "command performance" is a performance given by singers, dancers, pianists, etc. as a result of a "command" by royalty, the president, or other leader of government. It is considered a great compliment and honor to be "commanded" to perform. These performances tend to be very special, since the performer(s) want to impress the extra special audience. Over the years, there have been radio and TV (I think) programs with that name. No, they weren't being commanded to perform, it was just part of their name. One such program was directed at the military audience. As you can see, it was a pun, a "jogo de palavras", since "command" in English can mean military authority (comando). |
