On December 12, 1974 inspected ship's starboard tanks blah-blah-blah
What I quite don´t understood was the blah, blah, blah part...he he. Kidding aside; my first thinking is:
Inspected ship's starboard tanks = (they meant > ) Starboard tanks of the ship inspected (or of the ships inspected)
Inspected would be a situation, not a verb (He/she inspected ship´s starboard tanks and blah, blah, blah, yada, yada...
But, without have seen the (even the original) context, the piece of text itself for instance, it´s hard to say. Then, I only played a guess-game. Other possibility, is that one made a typo in the hasty sending.
