  Yep, he was. At the end of the day it is the pretty same thing.

   Worth noticing that in doing so, he shifted from a 'black' audience to a 'white' one, or a layer of the audience (non-MTV) to another.     Not abandoning the former one.    So he "moved on/passed on'' from a point to another (in the entertaining area).    If I don´t missed something, that´s the idea.
