Assunto:  grievances past ou past grievances?

Mensagem:  Hi!

I was reading column about Sotomayor's hearings at the washington post, but then I found this passage:
"The judicial confirmation wars are like conflict in the Middle East, with a never-ending cycle of attacks and recriminations over grievances past."

My question is: is it wrong grievances past? Wouldn' it be more correct past grievances?
I would appreciate any help, because I think it is wrong, but it is hard to believe they would make such a mistake.
