Mensagem:  Ricardo, I really liked this last reply of yours. The Japanese are probably greater adherents to the notion that 'race' is inmutable(static), rather than it being a social construct. I guess that's why they don't see Japanese-Americans as being any different from them even though they may not speak or understand the Japanese culture at all. One thing is sure, third or fouth generation Japanase-Americans who return to Japan and wish to teach English and are refused the opportunity to do so solely because of their genes must get infuriated. I also wonder how they feel they see the native Japanese people show more deference to "estrangeiros' of European descent than to "estrangeiros" of Asian/Japanese descent...... You especially can attest to the greater deference the Japanese show to people of European descent vis-a-vis "estrangeiros" of Asian/Japanese descent. Do you mind to comment a little about this issue?
