No, it´s not about thinking that grammar is useless, not at all. And one can see by the number and variety of Grammar books that I have cited, problem is, we must keep a balance when it comes to English, Portuguese or any other language. Sometimes a sentence is grammatically correct, but the way people talk in a everyday basis is to be taken in account, sometimes the natural way don´t agree much with the books. I have been warned of this countless times, let´s say, I am right by book´s standards but the way people talk is different. The natural way is in the other direction. Then you, for variety´s sake, you throw some sentences or words that are being used around; aah, don´t you ever read the books, don´t know the standard English? It´s interesting how human beings contradict themselves, including myself.
But, don´t ever think that I am not against this or that method, word, way, etc. I am open to English, from every place it possibly comes: comics, lyrics, novels, crosswords, everything. And I have noticed that even the Newsweek magazine is being gradually more informal these days.
