Funny, I see no problem with anglicism. I prefer to view it as a natural evolution of our language. Some will stick, other will not. Some will have different pronunciation or meaning from the original language. What's so wrong with it? Why do we need to have a pure languange? Does we need a pure society or a pure race? Language is culture and it's always evolving. It's an inexorable process. I also think that Brazilian Portuguese dictionaries and grammars are too slow to catch up with what is spoken nowadays.That is too bad. Another issue is that most Brazilians can't speak English at all. The problem is that Brazilian society and goverment don't take seriously the teaching of English as a second language. Maybe because people here fear the interference of another country - we have to be pure. |
