Mensagem:  Hey Tom, I think 'oportuno' and its derivats would be the best translation for 'expedient', although I don't think they match completely but at least it is still the word that gets closer to the 'expedient' meaning: It might be expedient not to pay him until the work is done. Seria oportuno não pagar ele até que o serviço esteja feito. (Even though he may need some money before, but it would be expedient for us since he will try to finish it soon) I think I got it, please, correct me if I misunderstood something.
