John Lennon wasn't mentioned specifically, but yes one can tell the British/Irish accent in the songs when the band/singer is from the UK or Ireland. Just try a sample of modern stuff like Coldplay, Duffy (Wales), U2's latest album, etc. Maybe in the modern songs we like to hear we can tell more of a light British accent, more like Londonians who have a different accent from other parts of England.


There's a video on Youtube were Joss Stone is trying to speak with an american accent and to me it sounds like some light form of the African-american English.


One can definetly tell Joss Stone's american accent while singing, maybe that's because the songs were originally made to other singers. Anyway she's a great performer.
