Jones et al (2002) attempt a definition of mental toughness, that centres around being, determined resilient, staying in control and remaining focused in the face of pressure.

In other words, they enjoy it. This isn’t just about being resilient, about managing something unpleasant, but actually gaining pleasure from tough situations."

Principalmente em momentos cruciais e sob pressão a pessoa continua confiante e vira o jogo, vê oportunidades nisso; enquanto outros morreriam de cansaço, estresse e pressão alta. Ou desistiriam antes disso.

Não é ser forte sob pressão, é querer (ou querer certa) pressão, aceitando-a e mantendo o foco e resistência, como um atleta que no fim do jogo parece que está acabando de entrar nele, ou de um corredor que passa na linha de chegada e dá outra volta quando os outros dão graças a Deus por estarem chegando no fim...
