Thanks Elizak for proofreading. In a hurry, I had focused solely on the question about 'inflamado/inchado'.
So, back to the crux:
"I underwent surgery (not a surgery) /I had an operation/ and an infection occurred locally at the incision site" would do. Since it would cover the 'problem' of talking about the swelling around the surgery site and the one of explaining that is a suture reaction, and generally it is.
BTW, From the description of the simptoms it´s a minor infection and can often be treated with antibiotics (see your doctor for a prescription). Severe local infections may require another surgery to repair and re-stitch. So, no scary scenario to be freaked out.
