Help me out here. We do not have a good word for this in English. In Spanish, however, when something effeminate is done by males, it is called a "mariconada". (maricón = viado, mariconada = algo que faz alguem do outro time) Is there an equivalent in Brazilian Portuguese? If you told an American boy he was going on a sleepover, he probably would be excited about it. If told him he was going to a slumber party or pyjama party, it would sound like a "mariconada" to him and he would not want to go. (I am talking about a young boy, not a teen-ager who thinks he is going to sleeping on the floor next to seven teen-aged girls!) In my 20s I spent the night in a home (Brazilian-American) where the teen-aged daughter was having a slumber party. (Yes, they kept me in another room!) The girls giggled all night long, took turns changing each other's hair styles, painting each other's nails, baking brownies, etc. As I recall, there were 6-8 girls. From what I saw and heard, that was a very typical slumber party. As a boy, I went on a few sleepovers, but there was certainly no parties. Maybe we watched TV, built a model airplane, etc. No giggling, no hairdos, no nails, and no brownies unless the mothers made them. rsrsrs |
