Mensagem:  Hi, y´all!
While reading a test, I saw two grammar points which called my attention a lot. I´m wondering whether someone can help me clarify them, please.
Here they are:

"There are hundreds, probably thousands, of volunteers who work just as hard for no financial remuneration at all, and I have enormous admiration for them."

My question is, why wasn´t the indefinite article used before enormous?

"...I don´t think the general public have ever realized what was going on behind the scenes."

General public H-A-V-E??? Why not has ever...?

By the way, this is not a sloppy test or whatever. It´s an article about setting up a fundraising event, published in a British mag.
