How about "comparecimento"? How is that used?
What I was trying to say was "the number of people are at a specific location". You give a lecture on the War of 1812, and thirty students listen to it. You can say that thirty students were present, thirty students were in attendance, or thirty students attended.
The University of Tiago has 5000 students. You can say that five thousand students attend the university or that five thousand are in attendance, but you would only say that five thousand students were present if each and every one of them were at the university at that moment.
I need to go to bed. I am writing absolutely useless things.
