Love Campos de Jordao! Great place. Loved to look out over the Paraiba Valley. Great little city for walking around, having coffee, getting your fortune told, etc.
The first bauru I ever ate was in Campos. If I close my eyes, I can still taste it.
Really enjoyed the bonde or train or whatever it was called.
Never got into pinhoes. They were okay, but I would lie awake at night planning my next trip to buy more.
I´d like to learn more about the hsitory of the area. I visited a grotto near Campos, a place where fugitive slaves would hide. It made a very deep impression on me. The sadness I felt there was crushing. Apparently,.there had been some quilombos near Campos. That is a subject that has intrigued me for years. In Porto Alegre I found a fellow who made beautiful wooden signs. I had him make one for me that says "O Quilombo" and has an Afro-Brazilian motif. My idea was to display it in my home, announcing to the world that was also a quilombo...a republic of free men.
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate your post.
