One of my favorite rock songs. Of course, the choice of double-neg was intentional and ironic: according to any pedant, if one says "we don't need no education" one in fact does need some education. And of course, there is a class element involved. Upper classes (to which teachers often cleave) use speech where the double-negative is avoided and lower classes (from whence come many students in public schools) use it routinely. |
