"Classical music" is a very nice term. Another possibility is "highbrow music". As you can see from the definition below from MERRIAM WEBSTER UNABRIDGED, a highbrow is a somewhat arrogant individual who may flaunt his education, tiesto culture, family connectons, etc. The term is derrogatory but not vulgar. Main Entry: 1highbrow Pronunciation Guide Pronunciation: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Function: noun Etymology: 1high + brow : a person who possesses or has pretensions to strong intellectual interests or superiority : one who regards aloofly or contemptuously manifestations of mass culture : EGGHEAD <highbrows ... despise soap operas and are repelled by the success stories in popular magazines -- W.O.Aydelotte> <highbrows who believe that ... art is for art's sake -- A.J.Toynbee> |
