To preside is not exactly the same as exercer a presidência. To preside means to be the highest ranking leader. There is a meeting for the parents of new students, and the vice principal presides. (At the meeting, the vice principal is in charge.) At a meeting of the Rotary Club, the secretary presides because the president is out of town. (The secretary does not run the club, but he is running the club meeting because the president is not there.) Will you preside over the committee meeting this afternoon? |
