Mensagem:  "Mad as a hatter" is an expression made famous in "Alice in Wonderland" and it comes from England. People who made hats used to soak the material in mercury or use mercury in some way to set the hats into a certain form. As we now know, mercury is a poison and affects the brain. Those workers obviously got mercury into their systems and eventually became lunatics. They acted crazy. It's not the same as being mad (zangado); it's loco or pinel.
