Mensagem:  Hey Tom Here in the interior of São Paulo it was also quite common calling people "pinel", when I was a kid in the 80s I could bloodly hear "você tá ficando pinel?" (Are you going crazy?) or as you said "ele é pinel" (he's crazy) or even "isso é coisa de pinel" (only crazy people do so), currently it is rare or even old-fashioned, I believe, use such term.
