Better thinking, probation would fit better. The thing is, "regime semi-aberto" is a system where the person convicted needs to return to prison (not jail) every night to sleep in there.
It's like a hotel, where the guys is "free" during the day, but he/she has to return every night. I know it might seems odd but that's what it is.
Beside all that, we also offer in Brazil the home holidays, where the convicted can go home to spend the holidays with the family. There's no need to say that many never return.
Some Judge Judy going on here...LOL.
