Hello, I saw this recipe below in a Brazilian Cook Site, and I'd like that you explain to me what "2 cups of black-eyed peas" means in Portuguese. I didn't find the meaning, although I'd looked for world wide web. The recipe it's the famous acarajé. Says:

Region: Comida da Bahia
Origin of the recipe / Introduction: Black eyed peas deep fried dough

2 cups of black-eyed peas; soaked overnight
1 cup water
2 cloves of garlic
11/2 tablespoon ground pepper
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
