Here is the problem. Yes, a "nip" is a small amount of alcohol. However, "stiff" means "big". When you put them together "stiff nip" is a "large drink, a powerful drink". We are not talking about just enough whisky to wet your lips. We are talking about a drink that would leave most of us gasping for air. stiff jolt = large amount of electrical shock stiff price increase = large price increase his rates are stiff = his rates are high, large |
