"Ghost employee" is right, Ms. Silveira. I heard of a another trick used by an account to bilk a company. (I believe it was a sports team.) He kept writing paychecks for employees who had died, retired, or left for other jobs. This meant that he had to be present on ever payday to hand out the paychecks. When, after several years, a severe illness prevented him from doing this, and his crime was discovered. There are some problems with this story. The most obvious is that paychecks are rarely used today. Salaries are commonly paid directly into the employees' bank accounts. ("direct deposit") Nevertheless, it is still a good story. |
