I also agree on the fact that we can use it intuitively and it sounds like one of those subjects grammarians come up with, though we can handle lgg. without learning / mastering it directly.
I just think that I myself (being a TEFL) ought to know what it is (that at least there is such a term), otherwise I might struggle somewhere else.
Anyway, "learning never tires the mind" ....
