" When I was young I had listened to the radio..... sentence grammatically wrong. At first I thought that "The Carpenters" had made a mistake here too... "When I was young I'd listen to the radio" But later I found out that we can use either 'used to' or 'would', when talking about repeated events and actions in the past. http://www.ecenglish.com/learnenglish/lessons/how-use-would So, either way sounds OK: When I was young I used to listen to the radio. (rhyme and rhythm would be thrown off) Quando eu era jovem, costumava ouvir o rádio When I was young I'd listen to the radio.(good rhythm) Quando eu era jovem, eu ouvia o rádio. (escutaria) ... When I was young my mother used to listen to this song on the radio. Quando eu era jovem, minha mãe costumava ouvir esta canção no radio. If I had listened to the radio when I was young I would have listened to that song too. Se eu tivesse escutado o rádio quando eu era jovem, teria escutado essa música também. |
